French Inspiration

The concept for the original Fontainebleau Resort in Miami Beach is born when Ben and Bernice Novack are inspired by an ornate palace seen during a visit to the French countryside.

Architect Morris Lapidus brings the Novacks’ vision to life with a design that featured modern elements that broke all the rules. A signature “Stairway to Nowhere” led to a small cloakroom, allowing guests to make a grand entrance and showcase their finest evening attire before descending to the lobby.
